Your gift makes it possible for Ocean Blue Project to grow our grassroots ocean cleanup nonprofit consequently protecting the world’s ocean. Together we protect marine wildlife, impact on the environment and endangered species habitat.

Your generosity allows volunteers to plant native trees next to rivers and clean up beaches all around the United States. which helps our ocean cleanup organizations protecting our mission and values that we desire so greatly. We work with over 5,800 beach cleanup volunteers creating beach cleanups all over the United States. 

Donors who give $50 or more will be annual members and receive a 21oz Ocean Blue ocean bottle. Our ocean cleanup team is often at beach cleanups or planting trees in a local river and working extra hard with limited time so please allow 6 to 8 weeks to receive your gift.

Through funding by corporations like yours, we’re developing a new ocean cleanup machine that can recover microplastics throughout American beaches. Advanced ocean cleanup technology like this helps us to not only collect microplastics, but effect change to curb microplastic pollution at its source.

Companies Saving The Ocean

When you care about the planet and have a special connection to our one world Ocean, you spend hours trying to choose what products to buy. To make it easy for you in 2021, Ocean Blue put together a list of the brands that directly support the removal of plastic in the ocean.

Partners with a commitment to donate a portion of sales

  • Hippie Haven has been donating annually to remove some of the plastic in the ocean for three consecutive years now. This Rapid City, South Dakota based eco-friendly home goods store has worked with Ocean Blue to remove thousands of pounds of debris over the past few years and cleaned up an urban stream in Salem, Oregon as part of an ongoing project.
  • TOMS, helps create cleanups to make larger impact and donates directly to plastic removal to help sav marine wildlife animals and healthy oceans.  
  • Healthy Human sponsorship by removing 60,000 pounds of Ocean Blue from the Ocean with Ocean Blue Project. 

Other noteworthy brands donate to clean up plastic on the ocean annually and are Ocean Blue Annual Corporate Members.

  • Boxed Water has partnered with Ocean Blue for two years in a row to clean up the beaches we love. This company provides water in a box  rather than a plastic bottle with a cap made from 92% renewable plant-based material. They are leading the way in the industry to reduce plastic in the ocean. 
  • Block 15 Brewing, brewery, restaurant and local favorite in Corvallis, Oregon hosts a pint night every year in support of Ocean Blue. Employees have also joined Ocean Blue on the beach for World Ocean Day and the brewery supports tree planting in Corvallis urban streams, helping to filter ocean water at its source. 
  • Boeing employees team up with Ocean Blue every year to clean up Puget Sound beaches. The company matches their employee volunteer hours to directly support even more beach cleanup efforts for a clean World Ocean.
  • Everything Organics is a thoughtful skincare company out of Portland, Oregon giving 4% of profits to two organizations with ocean cleanup efforts in their mission. Last year, Everything Organics gave 2% to Ocean Blue for efforts to clean up plastic in the ocean. 
  • HMTX Industries, formally known as Halstead International, is dedicated to supporting cleaning up plastic in the ocean. For three years, HMTX has led the way by donating and joining forces with Ocean Blue on the front lines. Annually, they show up in Manzanita, Oregon to clean up one of the most plastic ridden beaches in Oregon. 
  • Oregon Country Fair gave Ocean Blue a grant last year to support Willamette River Cleanup in Eugene, Oregon. 
  • Salesforce brought over 300 employee volunteers to Ocean Beach, led a few other cleanups in the San Francisco area and donated through various fundraising platforms for Ocean Blue. 
  • Secret Aardvark is a line of unique specialty sauces created by a surfer and now featured in restaurants from their home base in Portland, Oregon all the way to New York. The Ocean Blue team loves their sauce and is grateful for their annual member support for two years running. 
  • Sunriver Brewing donated to support beach and river cleanups and showed up in style at five events last year. They paid employee volunteers to manage the cleanups and give samples of their brew to volunteers.
  • Wells Fargo in San Francisco led their own cleanup last year and donated to further cleanup efforts on the California coast.

Businesses and Nonprofits Collaborating for Good

Our communities and our shared environment are in desperate need of collaborative solutions. When we work together we can get the job done more efficiently and more sustainably. Many hands make light work and that is why Ocean Blue is calling on Portland area businesses and nonprofits to show up and collaborate for the causes we care about most. 

Every year, the Ocean Blue team reaches out to local PDX businesses in support of year end fundraising efforts. Proceeds from the campaign support clean Portland stream and river projects. These businesses are being eco-leaders in their community by giving back to Ocean Blue volunteers and donors. 

Ocean Blue also reached out to 150 Portland area nonprofits this year. The nonprofits are part of a community wide fundraiser called the Give!Guide. G!G is put on annually by the popular local publication, Willamette Week. The Ocean Blue Team asked all 150 of the charities to donate and collaborate for a neighborhood cleanup at McMenamins Kennedy School. The nonprofit who donated and cleaned up the most litter took home all proceeds from the day.

McMenamins Kennedy School kindly provided their front lawn for cleanup volunteers to meetup and bring their collected litter. Volunteers from Bridges to Change, Portland Institute for Contemporary Art, and 350PDX joined in the efforts. Bridges to Change brought the most support for the collaboration, picked up the most litter, and took home all proceeds. 

The Ocean Blue team is incredibly grateful to these Portland area Nonprofits and Businesses who love our local waterways and the Ocean as much as we do!

Bridges to Change

Bridges to Change strengthens individuals and families affected by addictions, mental health, poverty and homelessness, which is in alignment with Ocean Blue’s mission to conserve and protect the world’s Ocean, beaches, and rivers. At almost every one of our 200 annual cleanup events volunteers pick up litter left by people who are homeless to prevent it from being washed into waterways by heavy rains and flooding. Social issues are environmental issues, and it is essential that organizations work together to address these issues holistically. 

Portland Institute for Contemporary Art

PICA offers interactive performance-based events and exhibitions in PDX. Their programs catalyze conversations about contemporary culture, featuring a twice annual residency program for artists who want to integrate multiple forms. The Creative Exchange Lab is an example of the holistic approaches our world needs more of right now. Ocean Blue welcomed PICA’s representative who donated and volunteered at the cleanup.

350PDX

This grassroots organization focuses on getting folks engaged in climate change initiatives and has a vision for enlightened social and political systems that prioritize renewable energy sources. Ocean Blue was happy to also have a 350PDX representative join in for the cleanup.

14 Portland Businesses Supporting Clean Waterways

McMenamins Kennedy School

McMenamins is a long-term Ocean Blue supporter. For five years, McMenamins has provided the Ocean Blue team with discounted accommodations to make cleanup events happen. This year, the Kennedy School co-hosted a cleanup that brought in almost 80 pounds of street litter, keeping it out of our rivers that flow downstream to our one world Ocean. 

Pumpkin Ridge Zip Lining in Oregon

Pumpkin Ridge Zipline is giving away 2 adult passes! If you want to go ziplining in Oregon this place is perfect. The spot is just 35 minute drive west of Portland and you can bring the whole family. Ziplining is OK for kids 8 or older. Taking the tour you will see seven zip lines and three suspension bridges of beautiful scenery. 

Oregon Zoo 

The Oregon Zoo is the oldest zoo west of the MIssissippi and currently houses over 1,800 animals. The zoo kindly provides Ocean Blue with 4 Oregon Zoo tickets every year and we have seen many smiles on the faces of volunteer winners. 

ENRG Kayaking 

Enjoy a historic Willamette Falls kayak or SUP paddle board tour for two from eNRG Kayaking. With locations in West Linn, Oregon City marina, and Mill City there are more fun tours to choose from along with youth camps and rental kayaks. For Portland kayaking, we think the Ladies Paddle Night sounds like a blast. 

Oregon Symphony 

The Oregon Symphony is the sixth oldest symphony in the United States. A lucky donor or volunteer will receive two tickets to go see the symphony this year. You can catch their instruments of the orchestra at the Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall in Portland’s downtown cultural district where Mannheim Steamroller is featured each holiday season.

Thunderpants 

This underwear company produces organic cotton underpants made in Portland, Oregon. Thunderpants is giving a $150 gift certificate to one lucky person. They make comfortable Thunderpants for both men and women in fun patterns and colors. 

Portland Thorns FC

Someone who supports Ocean Blue will win four tickets to a Portland Thorns home match. We have heard this National Women’s Soccer League team games are fun to attend and are so grateful to the team for supporting clean water projects. 

Hollywood Theatre 

The Hollywood Theatre is a historic movie theater in northeast Portland, now run by a non-profit organization. The theater has been an attraction since 1926, originally as a venue for vaudeville and silent movies. It became a Cinerama theater in 1961 and two winners will receive tickets and movie vouchers to see it in person. 

Oaks Park 

Operating since 1905, this historic park located in the Sellwood neighborhood is one of the oldest and last remaining trolley parks in the United States. The park features rolling skating and amusement rides. A daughter of a Bridges to Change representative took home 4 Deluxe Ride Bracelets for showing up to the cleanup in the best costume. 

LiveEdge Eco Salon

An environmentally progressive salon based in Oregon City is also supporting clean water efforts in PDX. LiveEdge donated a $50 gift card and eco friendly beauty products to support Ocean Blue donors and volunteers. 

HotLips Pizza

HotLips gives a lot to many nonprofits year round. We were so grateful to receive pizza donations for the cleanup team. We can only keep cleaning it up if our bodies are fueled up, and HotLips takes action by keeping PDX do-gooders fed. 

Coco Donuts

Who doesn’t love a donut? With six locations in Portland, Coco Donuts provides coffee and delicious donuts for Ocean Blue’s amazing supporters. It is always so awesome to see companies giving back by treating those who are doing good in our community. 

Patagonia

The Portland Patagonia store is one of Ocean Blue’s biggest supporters. For five years, Ocean Blue has received grant funding, product donations, or program support from this amazing company. The team is also invited twice a year to help spread the word about our mission at Patagonia store events. 

Hopworks Urban Brewery

HUB is another big supporter of Ocean Blue events and other Portland community nonprofits. In years past, the brewery has provided merch for fundraiser raffles and beer for volunteers. Ocean Blue depends on Brewers for Beaches to support clean water efforts. 

Environmental supporters are ultimately being rewarded with these gifts and it motivates people to keep making direct positive impact on the local ecosystem. Since everything flows downstream our Ocean is a mirror reflection of our city streets. Communities can work together in our Portland neighborhoods to keep the Ocean Blue by picking up the litter before it gets to the Ocean.
