Sightings of hatchlings are some what common however a turtle laying eggs us not all that common and has been some what a mystery for many years. On average, sea turtles lay 110 eggs in a nest, and average between 2 to 8 nests a season. The smallest clutches are laid by Flatback turtles, approximately 50 eggsper clutch. The largest clutches are laid by hawksbills, which may lay over 200 eggsin a nest.
In 1981 laws made it illegal to trade or sell all seven of the sea turtle species and making the meat, shells or eggs, internationally and nonproifts and government agencies are making ways to find news ways to help save sea turtles.
Ocean Blue is working daily to remove plastic that is floating in our Ocean and onto beaches. With thousands of pounds of plastic floating onto beaches, this makes for the perfect opportunity to remove plastic fragments that only harm marine wildlife like sea turtles. Donating to local nonprofits is the long term solution to help save our turtle species.
