HOW DOES THE TAX CUTS AND JOBS ACT IMPACT THE OCEAN?
While the American people enjoy temporary tax savings set to expire in 2025, permanent changes in the corporate tax structure are now set in stone. Could this impact American society far more than the results that our political leaders are implying?
Graduate and low-income students' right to education is now jeopardized because affordability to education is limited. This means that access to education is now more limited in the United States, folks.
Here’s how the biggest change of tax code in 30 years makes college education less affordable:
The well-being of people who are experiencing disability, poverty, and illness is now also being jeopardized through changes to social security and medical insurance. This tax code cut not only impacts human health directly, it disregards the separation of Church and State that was established by Thomas Jefferson.
This 1.5 trillion dollar tax code overhaul package is supposed to stimulate economic growth, but what does this mean for the ocean and the wildlife inhabiting the world’s ocean?
Established in 1960 by President Dwight D. Eisenhower, the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge is one of the only untouched places left on Earth. This protected area is now at risk for drilling. That’s right. A “protected” wildlife refuge in Alaska is wide open for gas and oil companies to begin coastal drilling. This can only lead to disaster.
Drilling oil Does more than just leak
Oil leaks destroy land, rivers, the ocean, and marine wildlife, and everything that the oil comes in contact with. Already, leaking oil pipes are destroying the environment and we know that further drilling will hurt wildlife and the land of Alaska.
Leaks are just one worry, along with air and light pollution, and changes to landscape caused by oil drilling operations. Such landscape alterations impact wildlife migration routes as well. Read More about the 19th century and digging for oil in the United States.
We all know where oil ends up too! Burning oil puts carbon into the atmosphere. Climate change is happening and the proof is in Alaska.
Alaska's Glaciers are Melting
It is hard to believe that these two photos were taken at the exact same locations decades apart. Alaska's glaciers are retreating at an alarming rate. Scientists from the University of Alaska and the U.S. Geological Survey estimate that Alaska is losing 75 billion metric tons of ice every single year. Alaska's glaciers and frozen rivers are melting so rapidly that the ice melt could cover the entire state with almost one foot of water every seven years.
Is there any way to counteract what our political leaders have set in motion? While the United States government is cutting taxes for large corporations and opening up drilling in the Arctic, Ocean Blue Project has developed [1% for the Ocean] to help Protect our untouched land, which is number one on our bucket list for the Arctic. b
Do you know how much clean air the ocean produces? Part of our mission is to save marine wildlife and by helping the ocean we can do more than help marine wildlife. When the ocean is healthy, all life on planet Earth will breathe the difference.
The world's ocean, rivers, and protected land are the first priorities of our nonprofit. With help from supporters, volunteers, and donors we will have a greater chance to protect the environment, one step at a time.
