Welcome to Ocean Blue Project, a grassroots 501c3 nonprofit organization with a compelling mission – to rehabilitate and conserve the world’s oceans, beaches, and rivers. We work to keep pollutants from entering ecosystems through the recovery of plastics from ocean, beach, and river clean-ups, solutions, collaborative community-driven service learning projects, and youth education. Our commitment to a cleaner, healthier ecosystem drives our work, and we empower individuals and communities to join us in this vital mission.
Founded in 2012 in Newport, Oregon, Ocean Blue Project is an environmental nonprofit dedicated to protecting our One World Ocean. Ocean Blue Project began as the vision of Richard and Fleet Arterbury, proud enrolled tribal members of the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma. When they heard that Oregon State University students needed the support of a 501c3 organization to host beach cleanups, the Arterburys formed Ocean Blue Project to give them the organizational support they needed.
The Ocean Blue Project community has grown to include hundreds of volunteers around the United States – people just like you that have come together to fight for a healthy ocean. Supported by the generosity of individual donors, business partners and the talent of dedicated mentors, Ocean Blue Project makes it possible for people from any age, background, or experience level to make a difference for our planet.
At Ocean Blue Project, we use a multifaceted approach to achieve our mission. Our work includes:

From the Pacific to the Atlantic coast, our volunteers have cleared hundreds of thousands of pounds of debris from local waterways. By stewarding our local communities, we can have a positive impact on the global ecosystem and our One World Ocean.
Whether you live on the coast or further inland, whether you are passionate about ocean cleanup or restoring habitats, your involvement can make a substantial impact. Habitat restoration and waterway cleanups are simple ways to take action and contribute to a healthier ocean.

Our brand spirit is inspired by ecological design and the systems present in nature. Ocean Blue embodies the importance of maintaining the health of our water bodies and their direct connection to the ocean.
The raindrop in our logo symbolizes clean water. It represents our dedication to preserving and protecting this vital resource, promoting its purity and conservation in all aspects of our work.
The roots symbolize using fungi and mycorrhizae in the restoration of aquatic environments. These organisms form a symbiotic relationship with plants, enabling them to expand their potential to filter runoff water and absorb nutrients.
The waterways symbolize the connection between urban streams and rivers and our global ocean. Our actions on land have a direct impact on the health of the oceans and the well-being of marine ecosystems.
Stay positive and solution-oriented in all we say and do
